Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between BB93 and BREEAM HEA05?
BB93 is a UK design standard focused on ambient noise levels and reverberation time, originally written for schools but widely referenced for office acoustics too. BREEAM HEA05 is a certification credit within the broader BREEAM sustainability rating that rewards buildings for demonstrable acoustic performance. A product with a named, tested absorption class — like Sylo and Baff's Class A rating — supports both.
What does “Class A” and “NRC” actually mean?
NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) and the weighted sound absorption coefficient (αw) both describe how much sound a material absorbs versus reflects, on a 0–1 scale — the closer to 1, the more absorptive. Absorber Class A (per EN ISO 11654) is the highest of five absorption classes. Sylo and Baff sit at 0.90–0.95 αw, Class A.
Can this be installed as a curved or 3D ceiling feature, not just a flat panel?
Yes — the same tensioned-membrane system used across NeviTec's standard stretch ceilings supports complex geometry, curves, and 3D volumes, so acoustic performance doesn't have to come at the cost of a flat, featureless ceiling.
Does this work for existing office refurbishments, or new-build only?
Both. Sylo and Baff install using the same profile-and-membrane method as NeviTec's standard ceilings, which is routinely used in refurbishment projects where a full structural ceiling replacement isn't practical.
